Introducing embedded videos and new shape libraries

Earlier this year, we asked you for feedback on all things Lucidchart. Over and over again, we heard requests for additional shape libraries. Today, we’re happy to deliver a video player that allows you to add color and movement with embedded YouTube videos. We’re also introducing 3 new shape libraries that will dramatically increase the flexibility of our tool: value stream mapping, vendor-neutral network diagrams, and rack diagrams. Where applicable, these new libraries feature standardized elements as determined by the appropriate industry. To optimize each library, however, we need your help. If you spot an error or omission, please let us know by emailing support@lucidchart.com.
Embedding Video
Our new video shape library allows users to embed YouTube videos and play them in both view and demo mode. Take your visual communication to a whole new level -- all you need is a URL! This functionality is available to all of our users, so try it today. Please note that embedded videos won’t play while editing. To embed a video:
- Open a document and click on “More Shapes” from the left-hand shape library.
- Turn the video slider to On and hit "Save".
- Once the video shape appears in your toolbar, drag it out and follow the prompts.
Rack Diagrams
Soon after the introduction of Visio stencil import in 2012, we realized that rack diagrams were among the most-uploaded stencil types. So our team decided to implement a native library of vendor-neutral shapes. These symbols simplify the depiction of servers, routers, modems, and other electronic equipment regularly fitted to a rack framework. Each icon is designed to fit precisely with one another, as well as to expand with the appropriate dimensions and elements.
Value Stream Mapping
Adherents of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing principles will love the new value stream shapes. Value stream maps make it easy to track waste in any process flow or system, then make needed improvements. Our library includes symbols for processes, materials, shipments, and even kanban. Since Lucidchart’s cloud-based software works perfectly on laptops, Android tablets, and iPads, you can take your value stream mapping to the shop floor and create efficient processes in moments.
Network Shapes
Although Lucidchart offers network shapes based on the documentation of Cisco and Amazon Web Services, many of you asked for a generic option. If you prefer vendor-neutral network mapping, our new shape library has everything you need to build up-to-date infrastructure charts. Our shapes work beautifully with Smart Themes, so diagrams are presentation-ready in minutes. As you explore the updated options, you might notice an optimized “More shapes” menu. We’ve transformed a static list into an interactive menu, complete with shape descriptions, sample diagrams, and a search bar. You no longer have to open a particular library in order to see its shapes -- and if you have a Free or Basic account, you can take a peek at what you’re missing. We appreciate your feedback on new and existing features. Let us know what you think, and as always, thank you for choosing Lucidchart. - The Lucidchart Team
