How to Use the Lucidchart connector for Confluence Server

To attach a diagram to a page

  1. Navigate to any Confluence page and select "+" or type the shortcut “{“ to open a drop-down menu where you can select “Lucidchart.”
  2. In the pop-up window, insert an existing diagram, create a new one, or import a Visio, Gliffy,, or OmniGraffle document directly.
  3. For new diagrams, click the orange “+Document” button. The arrow will open a template picker for different types of diagrams. Creating a new document will open our editor in a new tab. This short tutorial explains the basic components of creating your diagram.
  4. After creating your document, you can then insert it into the Confluence page. A new panel will appear on the Confluence page that contains all diagrams attached to it.

To view an attached diagram

  1. Anyone with access to the page can view the diagrams attached to it, but only those invited to collaborate can edit them. To let others edit, extend permissions from the Lucidchart editor or documents list.
  2. In Confluence, click a diagram’s thumbnail to open it in a full-screen viewer.

To edit or delete an embedded diagram

  1. Move your mouse pointer over a diagram and click the "pencil" icon to open a full-screen editor.
  2. Alternatively, click “Edit” in the right-hand corner of the Confluence page and hit the light gray “Edit” button. Here you will see a window titled “Edit Macro Settings” to enter a page range, alter width and alignment, or update the diagram.
  3. If you are unable to edit, this means you don't have edit permission and will need to contact the person who owns the diagram to request editorial access.
  4. Click “Update embedded diagram” to sync changes already made, or hit “Edit diagram” to open the document in the Lucidchart Editor. You can then modify the diagram if you have ownership or sharing permissions to do so.
  5. Click the Remove Diagram link to remove the diagram from your wiki.

Managing Users

This new feature lets you manage your team from Confluence. Make sure your API Key and Secret are still entered in the fields, then click the 'User Management' tab on the Configuration page. You’ll find three different sections:

Lucidchart team management

This table lists users currently on your Lucidchart team and shows whether they have connected their Lucidchart account to Confluence. Users that appear here have access to all the features and functionality of Lucidchart. You can manage additional team settings from the Team page at or from the second table on the User Management page.

Non-Lucidchart team management

This table lists users from your instance that have clicked the Add --> Lucidchart Diagram from inside Confluence and were auto-provisioned accounts but not automatically placed on the paid team subscription. They do not have full access to Lucidchart. Easily click 'Add to team' to grant them a license and allow them the full functionality of Lucidchart. If you need additional licenses, click the blue link to reassign licenses via the Team Management Page, or visit your Lucidchart Subscription Level page to upgrade to the next license tier.

Auto-provision settings

This checkbox at the bottom of the page makes it easy to control how users from Confluence join Lucidchart. Check the box if you want the team subscription to fill up on a first-come, first-serve basis. Uncheck the box if you want to manually select which users will receive Lucidchart licenses.
