What are swimlanes?

Swimlanes are used in all kinds of documents and presentations. They’re rectangular shapes that can be placed either vertically or horizontally. Additional elements—especially flowchart shapes—are then added to the main body to represent the flow of activities. The swimlane example below was made with Lucidchart, an online diagramming application, then embedded in a PowerPoint slide. The entire process took less than five minutes, and we ended up with a beautiful-looking presentation.

This flowchart is contained and organized by swimlanes. The point is to keep members of the team aligned with their goals, no matter where they are in the process.
