How to use the Competency matrix example in Lucidchart

To start, you need to understand each role and what it requires. Gather information on the roles you’re including in the matrix from those most familiar with them. From there, you can develop competencies based on that information.

When you’re ready to begin, edit the names on the left side of the matrix so it reflects your team members, and edit the skills along the top. Next, edit the custom data attached to each of the shapes in the chart:

  • Select a shape.
  • Click the Context Panel in the top right, and add a new data field in the data tab.
  • Edit data fields using simple operations, like addition or subtraction.
  • Manually add text to a shape by selecting the shape and typing.
