Export a PDF, image, or Visio doc
Learn how to export your document in a variety of formats.
You can publish, print or export your Lucidchart document in a huge variety of formats, making it easy to use and distribute your work.
When you’re ready to export your document, open the “File” menu and select “Download As.” Or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL (or CMD) + D. As you can see, Lucidchart gives you a lot of options for export. Some of them, like PDF, are pretty straightforward.
Select PDF, then under the content heading, you can select whether to export your entire document, specific pages, or just the page you’re currently working on.
If you want to publish a document with layers, make sure to select PDF, or publish your document to the web using Lucidchart’s advanced share options, which you can find by clicking the orange “share” button in the top right corner of the page, selecting “advanced,” then choosing to either publish a URL using the “Publish” tab, or embedding your document into a webpage using the options in the “Embed” tab.
If you’re printing your document, we recommend exporting it as a PDF. For extra tips on optimizing your document for print, check out our tutorial on “
Let’s next look at your options for downloading your document as an image. Downloading your document as either a PNG, JPEG, or SVG opens some additional options for your content and quality, including the option to download the current page with margins, the current page cropped to the content, or part of the current page. If I select this last option, then Lucidchart prompts me to drag my cursor over the part of the page I want to export. This makes it easy to export sections of a bigger diagram.
You can also specify the number of dots per inch from the current zoom level, to 300 DPI. If you’re working with others who still use Visio, or need to import your document into Visio yourself, you can export your document as a .VDX and open and edit the document using Visio.
Finally, exporting your document as a .CSV will create a .CSV file that includes shape names, shape libraries, text fields, and any data.
Once you’ve selected the format you want to use, simply click the blue “Download” button and wait for your file to download.
To summarize, if you ever need to download your work as a PDF, image, or even a Visio file, Lucidchart makes it easy to customize the format of your export so you can use and distribute your work in any way you need.
