Get familiar with the editor

Lucidchart's editor is where you create, edit, and share documents. It's also where you'll spend most of your time, so it's important to feel comfortable there. Before you continue, we recommend watching the video below.




Make your first document

  1. Log in to Lucidchart.
  2. Click "+ Document" in the upper-left corner of your Documents page.



Add and connect shapes

  1. Select a shape from the toolbox on the left.
  2. Drag and drop it onto the canvas.
  3. Hover over the edges of a shape. 
  4. When crosshairs appear, click and drag to the edge of another shape.

Find additional shapes

  1. Click "More Shapes" in the bottom-left corner of the editor.
  2. Click the checkbox next to the shape library you'd like to turn off/on.
  3. Click "Save".



Share your document

  1. Click "Share" from the menu bar at the top of the editor.
  2. Choose between inviting collaborators, publishing, or embedding.

Collaborate

If you need feedback from others. This option lets you choose your collaborators and set their permissions.

Publish

If you simply want to make your document visible. This option lets you choose between publishing as a webpage, PDF, or image.

Embed

If you'd like to display your work on a webpage. This option lets you copy and paste code right into your website.

Add to Word, PowerPoint, or other Microsoft programs

  1. Click Share > Publish > Image.
  2. Open the program, click Insert > Pictures, and select the downloaded image.

Integrate with Google Drive

If you want to open and save your Lucidchart documents in Drive. You can install the Lucidchart application from the Chrome Web Store.

Integrate with Google Docs

If you want to add diagrams directly to a Google Doc. You can install the Lucidchart add-on from the Add-ons Store.




Import images and files

Lucidchart can import several file types, including those from OmniGraffle and Microsoft Visio. If you don't see instructions for a particular file type, search for it in the Help Center.

Import files from other diagramming applications

  1. Click "Import" in the upper-left corner of your Documents page.
  2. Choose from the import options, then upload a file.

Import raster image files

  1. Click "More Shapes" in the bottom-left corner of the editor.
  2. Click the checkbox next to "User Images", then click "Save".
  3. Click "+" and upload a PNG or JPEG file.

Import vector image files

  1. Click "More Shapes" in the bottom-left corner of the editor.
  2. Click the SVG button in the top-left corner of the Shape Manager.
  3. Upload an SVG file.



Create your team

  1. Log in to Lucidchart.
  2. Click the Team tab.
  3. Click "Invite" or "Create" to add members to your team.



Integrate with Google Apps & Atlassian

Integrate with Google Apps

If you'd like to combine the benefits of Drive and Docs integration. Plus, your users can easily find, sign up for, and log into Lucidchart. You can install Lucidchart for your domain from the Chrome Web Store.

Integrate with Atlassian

If you want to add diagrams to JIRA or Confluence. Use Lucidchart to open Visio files, attach images to issues, and collaborate on diagrams with your team. You can install the plugin or add-on from the Atlassian Marketplace.
