Welcome to CloudGeeks!
Before you dive into our posts, let me tell you what we’re all about.
As a cloud architect who has designed everything from simple web apps to flexible, resilient, enterprise-scale cloud architectures at cutting-edge cloud companies such as AWS and Rackspace, I’ve always been eager to learn about new services or ways that I could help my clients and improve efficiency in my own projects.
But I’m the type of person who doesn’t want to hear just the theory or hypothetical uses of a new service. I need hands-on experience to understand, review, and compare services. I realized that I’m probably not the only person who learns this way—and I’m sure I’m not the only geek out there hungry for more practical information and more efficient ways to develop.
The CloudGeeks blog, powered by Lucidchart, is a way for me to keep you up to date on the latest cloud trends, news, and services—all with a practical (and sometimes humorous) approach. As I write for this blog, I won’t simply read about something and regurgitate what I’ve heard. I will put that technology to the test so you can feel more confident in the cloud services you choose for your own projects.
For example, I wanted to compare managed computer vision services, such as Amazon Rekognition and Google Cloud Vision. I could have simply run through the marketing materials available online for each service, but in addition to gathering key features and pricing, I started tinkering and built an aircraft classification system to really see how these services performed and identify some best practices.
In addition to geeking out about the latest and greatest in cloud technology, I’ll use detailed visuals and diagrams to help me organize my findings and convey information to you in a straightforward, digestible format.
I hope that this blog will not only help developers and architects who are working in the cloud every day but also show IT and engineering leaders how their organization can better utilize the cloud.
So be sure to follow this blog and check in with the CloudGeeks regularly! This industry is changing daily—let’s work together to stay informed and find ways to leverage these cloud trends and services.
